Lead Free PCB Assembly

Lead Free PCB Assembly

Lead Free PCB Assembly

Current EU Legislation was inevitably set to create uncertainty and confusion in the electronics Industry. Following the announcement of the EU directive 2002/95 EC relating to the restriction of hazardous substances ( RoHS), Kingfield Electronics has been working very hard to support, advise and guide its customers through the difficult transitional period.

With the implementation of separate processes, and the modification of many existing procedures and operating practices, the transitional phase has required a significant undertaking on our part so as to ensure we are well placed to meet the needs of both RoHS compliant and exempt customers. Not only did this require a ground-up review of all operating practices but also included extensive testing of a variety of Lead Free finishes and solders before finally adopting ones which best suited the requirements of our customers.

During our extensive research into lead free production processes, Kingfield has built on existing expertise, and is currently able to offer:

  • A full parts list scrubbing service, investigating the lead-free status of currently selected components and seeking alternative parts where necessary
  • Assistance with the choice of different grades of FR4 laminates and alternative materials to deal with the higher soldering temperatures and increased number of thermal cycles
  • The ability to trial any combination PCB finish and materials and solder, using both conventional and SMD assembly techniques
