>New Facility Refurbishment UnderwayFriday, 13th December 2013 posted by Kim Munro
Well after all the hype, the refurbishment of our new 40,000 ft2 manufacturing facility is now finally underway. This not only provides a fantastic opportunity to rationalise the existing ways of working, but also provides a solid platform on which to maintain growth.
Nick Taylor, Managing Director of Kingfield Electronics commented, “After two years of searching for the right building we finally acquired a suitable premises located just 800 yards from our current facility. Work has now started to develop the site into a centre of excellence for electronics manufacturing”.
Stage One will focus on mainly the exterior improvements which include a complete replacement of existing roof and windows, which in turn will allow much more natural light into the building. You can see from the images in the post this required the use of a crane to remove the old roof panels and assist in fitting the new ones.
The image to the left gives you a idea of the scale of the new building when compared with the crane in the background. The building is on the main hub road around the industrial estate allowing for easy access for delivery drivers and customers/suppliers alike.
The large open plan facility will allow us the opportunity to reorganise the manufacturing processes according to lean manufacturing principles and as part of this migration we are conducting a number of in-depth value stream mapping programes to ensure we minimise the flow distances and maximise the added value activities. Dave Bailey, Operations Director said, “The whole of the team are looking forward to moving into the new facility in 2014. The space has allowed us to make some bold process design decisions which will not only allow us to create a visual factory but will also allow us to get everything under one roof with additional space available for further expansion”.
